A Gentleman In Moscow - Amor Towles

GENTLEMAN-Medium

Author: Amor Towles

Category: Fiction

Format: Paperback

Finished: Yes

Rating: 7/10

Comments: It took me a while to get through this book, mainly because of time, so it was difficult to take it as a whole, continuous read; there would be big gaps between reads. I think it took me over 5 months to read it!

The book follows Count Alexander Rostov, who in 1922 was sentenced by a Bolshevik tribunal to lifelong house arrest in the luxurious Hotel Metropol, located across from the Kremlin, all because he wrote a poem! Spared execution for this misdemeanour, the aristocrat moves from his suite to an attic room, crafting a new, purposeful life filled with friendship, love, and parenting amid decades of tumultuous Soviet history.

A very good read; when I could, easy to get through as long as you read it continually rather than dip in and out, as I did. Very humorous and sad at the same time.
